Opal plugs into Gemini Gems
Google is bringing Opal, its no-code builder for AI mini apps, directly into the Gemini web app as an experimental way to create reusable Gems. The move turns Gemini from a chat surface into a lightweight workflow builder with memory, routing, chat, and media-generation capabilities.
This is less “n8n killer” than “Gemini gets a visual prompt-workflow layer,” but it is still a meaningful product shift for Google’s consumer AI stack.
- –The real upgrade is distribution: Opal no longer lives as a separate experiment and now sits inside Gemini’s existing user flow
- –Google is packaging prompt chaining, tool use, and reusable app logic into a no-code surface that non-developers can actually share
- –The new step-list view lowers the barrier to editing workflows, while the advanced editor at opal.google keeps more granular control available
- –If Google keeps expanding Gems this way, Gemini starts looking more like an app platform than a chatbot
