PlanetScale Insights reaches all plans, MCP
PlanetScale says Insights is now available for MySQL and Postgres across all plans, accessible in the dashboard and through its MCP server. The feature covers query performance, errors, anomalies, and recommendations, giving both humans and agents a common place to investigate database behavior.
This is less a flashy launch than a strategic widening of the product surface: PlanetScale is making observability available everywhere, then exposing the same data to AI tooling. That matters because database debugging becomes much more useful when the model can see the same performance context you do.
- –All-plan access turns Insights into a default workflow instead of an upsell, which increases adoption and makes the feature more defensible
- –MCP access is the real leverage point: agents can inspect slow queries, error patterns, and recommendations without switching tools
- –Combining query performance, anomalies, and schema advice in one loop makes this a triage product, not just a dashboard
- –For teams running both MySQL and Postgres, PlanetScale is trying to own the cross-engine observability layer
- –The upside is practical automation; the risk is that AI-driven diagnosis still needs strong guardrails before it can be trusted on production databases
