Photon Expands Agents Across Calls, Chats
Photon’s agent infrastructure now connects AI agents to iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS/RCS, and phone calls, letting developers deploy across the channels users already know. Its open-source Spectrum framework abstracts delivery, formatting, and platform-specific complexity.
Photon is betting that agent adoption depends less on better chat windows and more on meeting people inside existing conversations.
- –A unified channel layer removes much of the webhook, formatting, rate-limit, and delivery plumbing developers otherwise rebuild per platform.
- –Phone calls add a synchronous escalation path for approvals, urgent alerts, and users who will never open an AI app.
- –Adaptive rendering and observability matter: agents need to feel native while remaining auditable and controllable.
- –The harder problem now becomes trust—clear consent, identity, permissions, and human handoff—especially when agents can initiate calls.
- –Open-sourcing Spectrum could make multi-channel agent deployment a standard infrastructure layer, much like CPaaS became for messaging.
