iPad mini gets OLED, A20 Pro
Apple’s new iPad mini adds an 8.5-inch OLED display, A20 Pro chip, IP67 water resistance, faster connectivity, and Apple Intelligence support. It starts at $699, with preorders opening October 28 and availability beginning November 6.
This is the mini’s most meaningful hardware refresh yet, but Apple’s premium pricing and 60Hz display keep it from feeling unequivocally pro.
- –OLED, nano-texture glass, a thinner 5.4mm design, and Acoustic Display substantially improve the device for reading, media, and creative work. [MacRumors](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/26/apple-announces-ipad-mini-with-oled-display/)
- –A20 Pro delivers Apple-claimed gains of up to 4.5× for AI performance, making the mini a compact on-device Apple Intelligence endpoint. [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/26/apple-unveils-new-ipad-mini-with-oled-display-and-faster-a20-pro-chip/)
- –Developers should note the hardware split: only the $999 512GB model gets the full A20 Pro configuration with a dual 16-core Neural Engine. [9to5Mac](https://9to5mac.com/2026/10/26/new-ipad-mini-has-big-limitation-on-all-but-one-model/)
- –The unchanged 60Hz refresh rate is a conspicuous omission for a device positioned around premium visuals and high performance.
- –The $100 price increase makes the mini more capable but less compelling as an affordable secondary development or testing device. [MacRumors](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/26/oled-ipad-mini-second-price-hike-2026/)
