Hugging Face brings third-party models to Claude Code
Hugging Face has released an integration that allows developers to run alternative open-weights and third-party AI models, such as Moonshot AI's Kimi K3, inside Anthropic's Claude Code CLI. By proxying requests through Hugging Face's Inference API endpoints, developers gain the flexibility to pair Claude Code's agentic terminal workspace and workflow with diverse models hosted across Hugging Face's infrastructure network.
Providing open model support inside Claude Code bridges terminal developer experience with model choice and flexibility.
- –Choice of Models: Enables developers to run models like Kimi K3 in Claude Code rather than being restricted to Anthropic's first-party APIs.
- –Ecosystem Bridge: Merges Anthropic's agentic CLI tool UX with Hugging Face's open model hub and inference provider infrastructure.
- –Cost and Hosting Flexibility: Gives teams the option to leverage alternative inference pricing and hosting providers while maintaining a unified developer CLI toolchain.
