Bun v1.5 Previews Ahead-of-Time Compilation
Jarred Sumner says the Bun v1.5 video was filmed, with the upcoming release set to include an ahead-of-time compiler. The feature could push Bun beyond fast development tooling toward higher-performance compiled JavaScript and TypeScript deployments.
Bun is expanding from “fast Node replacement” into a more complete JavaScript toolchain, and AOT compilation is its boldest bet yet.
- –Could make compiled Bun binaries more competitive with Go-style deployment workflows
- –Built-in linting and formatting further reduce dependency and configuration overhead
- –ESLint, oxlint, and Prettier compatibility lowers migration friction for existing projects
- –Developers will need real-world benchmarks, binary-size data, and compatibility testing before trusting AOT builds in production
