Foundation Lab Eyes iPhone Duo Benchmark
Foundation Lab, an open-source workbench for Apple’s Foundation Models framework, plans to support iPhone Duo and compare it with iPhone 16 Pro Max. The project captures prompts, tools, transcripts, timing, and token usage for reproducible on-device testing.
This is a useful next step for Apple’s on-device AI ecosystem, but the comparison will matter only if it controls for OS version, thermal state, workload, and model configuration.
- –Foundation Lab already provides Library, Playground, and Runs workflows for inspecting model behavior and run evidence.
- –iPhone 16 Pro Max offers a practical baseline for developers targeting existing Foundation Models-compatible hardware.
- –The benchmark should report time to first token, tokens per second, total latency, memory pressure, thermals, battery impact, and tool-call reliability.
- –A larger or newer iPhone Duo may improve sustained performance, but raw speed alone will not establish better developer value.
- –The announcement describes planned work, not published benchmark results yet.
