PandaCode Adds Local Routing, Smarter Teams
PandaCode’s updated team system adds local Panda Router model selection with Cheap, Balanced, and Best modes, plus failover and multi-agent coordination. The open-source desktop workspace orchestrates coding CLIs while keeping routing decisions on-device.
PandaCode is turning model choice from a manual preference into a practical orchestration layer for developers juggling multiple coding agents. The tradeoff is that routing quality still depends on current model cards, rankings, and task-specific validation.
- –Local routing can select workers in roughly 10–25 ms without sending task data elsewhere.
- –Failed workers can be replaced with stronger models, making parallel teams more resilient.
- –Support for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and other harnesses positions PandaCode as a control plane rather than another standalone agent.
- –Cheap, Balanced, and Best modes give developers an explicit cost-versus-quality policy for each team run.
- –Custom rankings are useful but can become stale quickly as model quality, pricing, and availability change.
