TasteCode Puts Design Mode Around Coding Agents
TasteCode is a free, open-source desktop workspace for Codex, Claude Code, and Grok. Its Design Mode takes web projects from brief through implementation, live browser preview, responsive checks, and visual diff review while keeping projects and credentials local.
TasteCode’s strongest idea is not bundling multiple agents; it is adding a structured design-and-review loop to otherwise terminal-first coding workflows.
- –Local-first architecture lets developers use existing provider subscriptions without handing project state to another hosted platform.
- –Design Mode turns vague briefs into a repeatable flow covering direction, implementation, preview, and visual correction.
- –Provider-aware controls acknowledge real differences between Codex, Claude Code, and Grok instead of flattening them behind a fake-unified interface.
- –Hunk-level review and git checkpoints give developers meaningful control over agent-generated changes.
- –The early-beta tradeoff is real: provider CLIs are required, macOS support is Apple-silicon-only, and the Windows installer is unsigned.
