BeeBranch 1.0 launches local-first Git client
BeeBranch is an open-source desktop Git client for GitLab and GitHub, including self-hosted instances. Its first public 1.0.0 release offers local Git workflows, repository graphing, merge-request integrations, and zero telemetry, cloud accounts, or AI.
BeeBranch’s sharpest differentiator is restraint: it treats Git as a local system instead of another SaaS surface. The trade-off is that a first public release must prove it can match mature clients on edge cases and platform polish.
- –Local-first architecture keeps repositories authoritative and supports offline Git work.
- –Self-hosted GitLab and GitHub Enterprise support targets teams underserved by platform-specific clients.
- –Line-level staging, worktrees, merge/rebase recovery, virtualized history, and crash journaling show serious power-user ambition.
- –AGPL-3.0 licensing, no telemetry, and no AI will appeal to privacy-conscious developers.
- –Supporting only GitLab and GitHub leaves less breadth than established commercial alternatives.
