Vercel Flags SDK Speeds Cold Starts 7x
The `@flags-sdk/vercel` adapter now loads bundled flag data immediately and avoids a network check during initialization, reducing p75 cold-start time from over 70 ms to 10 ms in internal tests. Version 1.5.3 also routes usage events through the Vercel runtime so reporting no longer extends function duration. This is unglamorous but important infrastructure work: feature flags become cheaper in latency and less intrusive in serverless execution.
- –Bundled datafile loading removes the first-evaluation network wait.
- –Invocation-level revision metadata checks freshness without another runtime request.
- –Vercel reports p99 flag-read latency below 1 ms across cold and warm invocations.
- –Usage reporting no longer relies on `waitUntil`, avoiding post-response function work.
- –Teams must upgrade to version 1.5.3 or later and redeploy for the improvements to take effect.
