Node.js 26 LTS Lands on Vercel
Node.js 26 LTS is now generally available on Vercel for builds and Functions, becoming the default runtime for new projects. Built-in fetch now uses HTTP/2 by default, alongside Temporal and V8 14.6.
The real win is transport efficiency: AI agents generate enough concurrent network traffic for HTTP/2 multiplexing to materially reduce connection overhead, though gains depend on upstream support.
- –HTTP/2 by default should improve high-concurrency fetch workloads and reduce connection churn
- –Temporal gives agent workflows a safer, more capable API for dates, durations, and time zones
- –V8 14.6 brings newer JavaScript capabilities and runtime improvements
- –Minor and patch updates roll out automatically, keeping security maintenance current
- –Teams needing HTTP/1.1 compatibility can disable HTTP/2 with VERCEL_FETCH_DISABLE_H2
