Libraries.dev Adds Voice Position to Voice Ring
Libraries.dev’s SwiftUI Voice Ring now pairs with the Voice Position v2.0 beta model to detect whether a speaker is left, ahead, or right, while estimating near-versus-far distance from iPhone stereo microphones. On-device emotion models also shift the ring’s color based on speech tone and text.
This turns a voice visualizer into a genuinely spatial interface primitive, giving developers a simple signal for adapting UI placement, scale, and emphasis. The concept is strong, but the beta’s narrow device and environment testing makes production validation essential.
- –Voice Position exposes plain SwiftUI values for speaker direction and approximate distance.
- –The 1.6 KB model runs locally without sending audio to a server.
- –Testing is limited primarily to one speaker and iPhone 15 Pro hardware.
- –Distance detection currently works only with the phone on a desk, not handheld.
- –MIT code licensing contrasts with separate commercial licensing for the model.
