SCAIL-2 animates characters directly from video
SCAIL-2 is an open-source character animation framework that performs end-to-end motion transfer directly from driving videos, bypassing intermediate skeleton extraction. Built on a latent diffusion backbone and trained on the MotionPair-60K dataset, it supports multi-character scenes, cross-identity replacements, and zero-shot generalization to non-humanoid figures.
Eliminating intermediate structural representations is a major leap forward for motion transfer, reducing error propagation and enabling more natural animations.
* Operating end-to-end directly from pixels avoids the rigid, often unnatural movements associated with structural/skeletal intermediate steps.
* The integration of Bias-Aware Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) represents a smart, target-oriented approach to solving fine-detail defects such as distorted hands and fingers.
* High zero-shot capability on non-humanoid, cartoon, and animal figures significantly broadens utility for indie animators and game developers.
