Lightpanda, ZML/LLMD Power Local Agent
Lightpanda and ZML/LLMD combine into a fully local Zig-based web agent running a 1.7B model on one MacBook. In a Pac-Man costume search, it finished in 1:50 using 107MB and found three results, while Chrome took 5:09 and found none.
This is a compelling stack-level efficiency demo, though one search is not a universal browser benchmark.
- –Lightpanda removes Chrome’s rendering overhead for agent-driven web tasks.
- –ZML/LLMD provides local, platform-native inference without cloud API latency or data exposure.
- –The 107MB versus 1.8GB memory gap makes local browser agents more practical on consumer hardware.
- –Results quality still depends on site compatibility, model capability, and search strategy.
- –The Zig-based pairing points toward leaner, self-hosted agent runtimes for developers.
