Anthropic adds keyless auth for Claude Platform
Anthropic is adding keyless authentication to Claude Platform, letting developers log in from the CLI via browser and let cloud workloads use existing identities from AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or any OIDC provider. The change is aimed at reducing static API key sprawl in production and CI.
// ANALYSIS
This is the kind of infrastructure update that matters more than a flashy launch: it lowers secret-management risk and makes Claude more enterprise-ready.
- –Workload Identity Federation removes long-lived API keys from production and CI, which is a real security win for teams running Claude at scale
- –Browser-based CLI auth makes the local developer experience simpler without forcing everyone into secret files or env vars
- –Support for AWS, GCP, Azure, and generic OIDC puts Claude in line with how modern cloud auth already works
- –The tradeoff is setup complexity: IAM, issuer, and federation-rule configuration will be more work than dropping in an API key
- –This looks like Anthropic standardizing Claude around platform-grade identity, not just model access
