Gemini turns chats into files
Google added direct file generation to the Gemini app, letting users create Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, Word, Excel, CSV, LaTeX, Markdown, TXT, and RTF from a prompt. The feature is available globally and can download files locally or export them to Drive.
This is a practical, high-leverage upgrade: Gemini is moving from "draft text here, format it somewhere else" to "ship the artifact directly," which is where real workflow value lives.
- –Useful for both Google-native teams and mixed environments because it spans Workspace formats and common interchange files like DOCX, XLSX, CSV, and PDF
- –Lowers friction for budgets, briefs, research summaries, and internal docs by removing copy-paste and reformatting steps
- –Makes Gemini feel more like a production document engine than a chat toy, especially for people already living in Drive and Workspace
- –The real test will be fidelity: tables, charts, and layout need to survive generation cleanly for this to replace manual export workflows
