OpenCodex Opens Codex To 40+ Providers
OpenCodex is a free, MIT-licensed local gateway that lets Codex, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and other coding tools use models from 40+ providers through one configurable endpoint. Its desktop app bundles the proxy, dashboard, and system tray.
OpenCodex attacks a real pain point: developers increasingly choose coding harnesses independently of model providers, but configuration and billing remain fragmented.
- –Routes Anthropic, Google, xAI, Kimi, OpenRouter, Ollama Cloud, and OpenAI-compatible providers through one local service
- –Preserves native Codex and Claude Code workflows instead of forcing users into a replacement IDE
- –Supports streaming, tool calls, reasoning, images, sub-agents, and model switching
- –MIT licensing and self-hosting make it attractive for developers wary of another hosted abstraction layer
- –Provider terms and account restrictions remain the biggest operational risk when routing subscriptions through a proxy ([GitHub](https://github.com/lidge-jun/opencodex))
