ChatGPT Images 2.6 Tops 4B Weekly Generations
OpenAI says users now generate more than 4 billion images weekly across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API, up from over 3 billion eight weeks earlier. Images 2.6 adds faster generation, GIF creation, SVG export, markup-guided edits, and adjustable complexity controls.
Four billion weekly generations makes image creation a mass-market workload, not a novelty feature. The more important developer signal is that OpenAI is expanding the output and editing surface alongside usage growth.
- –Usage grew by roughly one-third in eight weeks, according to OpenAI’s figures
- –API developers gain practical production features including GIFs, SVGs, markup edits, and complexity controls
- –Flare targets faster iteration while Sunburst targets detailed, consistent edits
- –The headline volume is impressive but does not reveal retention, quality, or how many generations are discarded
- –Rising generation volume also increases pressure on inference economics, latency, and content-safety systems
