ADE gives Conductor users open-source escape hatch
ADE is a free, AGPL-3.0 agentic development environment that runs Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Factory Droid, and OpenCode across isolated Git worktrees, with synced desktop, web, terminal, and iPhone clients. Its local-first architecture offers a migration path as Conductor Cloud approaches its November 20 shutdown and data deletion deadline.
ADE is well-timed: Conductor’s cloud shutdown exposes the fragility of centralized agent workspaces, while ADE bets that developers would rather own the runtime and use their existing subscriptions.
- –The local “Brain” keeps execution on user-owned machines, reducing cloud lock-in and credential exposure.
- –Parallel Git worktrees isolate agent tasks, but merge conflicts and shared dependencies still require human review.
- –Desktop, browser, terminal, and phone clients control the same runtime, making approvals portable without duplicating sessions.
- –Support for multiple agent harnesses and bring-your-own subscriptions makes switching easier than adopting another closed platform.
- –The tradeoff is operational: machines must remain available, while Windows support is still beta and Linux lacks a native desktop client.
