Mastra Adds Render-Only Tool Support
Mastra now lets developers mark display-only tools with renderOnly: true, eliminating the need for a no-op execute function. Calls can stream UI elements to the browser while agents and sub-agents continue running without waiting for a client result.
This is a small API change with outsized UX value: it cleanly separates tools that act from tools that render.
- –Removes boilerplate execute handlers for display-only interactions
- –Enables streaming UI components such as product cards directly from agent runs
- –Lets agents continue processing without blocking on client-side rendering
- –Makes tool intent clearer for developers and model integrations
- –Fits Mastra’s broader push toward TypeScript-native agent and workflow infrastructure
