Mission Robotics brings physical AI builders together
Mattie “@Scav” Fairchild is building Mission Robotics, an 8,500-square-foot San Francisco workspace where physical-AI founders share robots, tools, events, and engineering knowledge. The community also showcases experiments such as GPT-6 Astra remotely controlling a robot arm.
The important story is less a flashy robot demo than the emergence of shared infrastructure for embodied-AI development.
- –Members can access platforms including Unitree G1, Franka, SO-101, and Trossen arms
- –Shared hardware and events lower the barrier to experimenting with real-world AI systems
- –GPT-6 Astra’s tool-calling demo suggests general-purpose models are becoming useful as high-level robot controllers
- –Developers still need perception, kinematics, safety checks, and hardware control beneath the model layer
- –Mission Robotics could become a valuable meeting point between model builders, robotics startups, and deployment engineers
